Committee on Legal Status of Korean Residents in Japan
The Committee held five meetings on December 7, 9, 11, 15, and 17, 1964 respectively.
Both sides exchanged views on the various points at issue which had been discussed at the previous Talks, including the scope of those who will be accorded the permanent residence in Japan, the causes for their deportation and their treatment in Japan.
As for the scope of those Koreans who will be accorded the permanent residence in Japan, both sides respectively made explanations on their positions.
The Committee concentrated a major portion of its deliberations on the treatment is Japan of those Koreans falling under the provisions of the proposed agreement, including educational facilities, social securities, property rights and so on. Through these deliberations, the positions of both sides on these issues were made clear.
The Committee also discussed the ways and means regarding the remittance of money and properties to be carried by the repatriating Korean residents is Japan.
The Korean aids informally brought up the problems of the treatment in Japan of those Koreans who had entered into Japan after the termination of the World War II and resided in Japan for a considerable period of time, and the reuniting of dispersed families of Korean residents in Japan.
