No.2078
TJ/RJ/D
14th August 1959
To : His Excellency the Foreign Minister
From : Korean Embassy, London
Subject : Mass deportation of the Korean residents in Japan
Supplementing Ambassador kim's report No.2076 of the 12th August 1959 concerning the subject matter, I wish to report to you that the London Times, Manchester Guardian and Daily Telegraph printed on the 12th despatches from their own correspondents in Geneva dealing with the announcement of ICRC that it will take some part in the deportation plan.
In the issue of 1st August, the Daily Telegraph printed a short despatch from their own correspondent in Tokyo regarding the relations between Korea and Japan. the relative news clipping of this article will be in the bulk of the news clippings which we usually forward to Seoul.
I wish to draw your attention to the fact that today the Manchester Guardian newspaper made an editorial comment on the mass deportation issue, and this is the first editorial comment ever made by the leading British press on this subject. Although the editorial did not criticise the agreement now signed between the representatives of Japan and north Korean communist, it took due note of the Korean viewpoints on the question as you will notice from the enclosed clipping. A cable report will be made to you today concerning this editorial which appears rather friendly.
Copy to : His Excellency Dr. Syngman Rhee.
