On the morning of August 21, 1957, Counsellor Miyake of the Japanese Foreign Office, by telephone, notified Counsellor CHOI that the Japanese side has no objection to deleting the mark "TRANSLATION" appearing in the left upper corner of the English text of the draft note varbale to withdraw the Kubota statement and Japanese property claims, as requested by the Korean side at the preliminary talks held on July 31, 1957. (Please refer to the summary record of the preliminary talks ................. XIII)
REMARKS:
According to the draft note verbale on the withdrawal of the Kubota statement and Japanese property claims, the mark "Translation" was put in the left upper corner of the English text of the draft. Our side requested the Japanese side to delete the nark "Translation". We told the Japanese side that as both sides diseased the problem on the basis of the English text of the draft and further all other documants on the detainees issue and the resumption of the overall talks are drafted in English, the Korean side believed that there should be an authentic English text of the note verbale and not the one of more "Translation". So, the Japanese side, today, gave us a reply accepting our request in this regard.
