THE FOURTH PLENARY SESSION OF THE FOURTH KOREA-JAPAN OVERALL TALKS
 
1. Time and place
 From 4:25 p.m. to 4:55 p.m. on April 25, 1958, at the Room No. 311 of the Japanese Foreign Office
2. Conferees:
 The Korean side : Same as in the previous session
 The Japanese side : Same as in the previous session except Mr. Mishimura and Itagaki who were absent
 
3. Gist of talks:
MR. SAWADA:
First thing we should do today is the confirmation of the summary records of 2nd and 3rd plenary sessions of the Fourth Korea-Japan Overall Talks.
MR. SAWADA:
Will you read your version first?
AMB. LIMB:
Since the summery record of the 2nd plenary session was drafted by the Japanese side, it should be read by your side first.
AMB. LIMB:
Same of our members cannot understand English, therefore, We would like to have our interpreter translate what is said in English into Korean. MR. SAWADA:
All right.
(Here. Mr. Ki Bong Han, one of the assistants of our delegation seted a interpreter throughout the meeting.)
(Here, Mr. Okuma, Japanese officer responsible for drafting the summary record, read the text of the summary record of 2nd plenary sessions which was initialed by recording officers of the both delegations, the. text of which is attached hereto.)
MR. SAWADA:
Will you confirm the summary record which Mr. Okuma has just read?
AMB. LIMB:
Confirmation should be made after our recording officers, Mr. Choi reads our version.
(Here, Mr. Choi, Korean officer responsible for drafting the summary record, read the text of our version of the summery record of 2nd Plenary Session, the text of which is attached hereto.)
MR. SAWADA:
Now then, shall we confirm?
AMB. LIMB:
Yes, all right.
(Here the chief Delegates of both sides confirmed the summary record of 2nd Plenary Session.)
MR. SAWADA:
Shall we confirm the summary record of 3rd Plenary Session?
AMB. LIMB:
Since the summary record of 3rd Plenary was drafted by our side, I think we should read it first this time.
(Mr. Choi, Korean officer responsible for drafting the summary record, read the text of the summary record of 3rd Plenary Session, the text of which is attached hereto.)
(Mr. Okuma, Japanese officer responsible for drafting the summary record for the Japanese side, read the text of the summary record of 3rd Plenary Session, the text of which is attached hereto. )
AMB. LIMB:
Shall we confirm?
MR. SAWADA:
MR. SAWADA:
As for the composition of committees, the Korean proposal is still under study by the Japanese Delegation.
AMB. LIMB:
As soon as your side finishes studying it, please give us your prompt reply to our proposal.
MR. SAWADA:
I think we have exhausted it to be discussed for today's meeting.
AMB. LIMB:
I would like to suggest that the date for next plenary session (Fifth plenary Session) be decided.
AMB. LIMB:
Will your side make a proposal in this connection?
MR. SAWADA:
I suggest that the fifth plenary session be held on April 30, 1958 (Wednesday). As you know, the coming Tuesday (April 29, 1958) is the Emperor's birthday. Therefore, it is convenient for us to held next plenary session on Wednesday(April 30, 1958).
AMB. LIMB:
I think it seems all right.
AMB. LIMB:
What is shall we meet on April 30, 1958?
MR. SAWADA:
I suggest 4:00 p.m. as usual.
AMB. LIMB:
How about holding the next plenary session in the morning Instead of afternoon?
MR. INQUE:
It is easy and convenient for us to meet next plenary session in the afternoon. We need a little more time to prepare for the meeting on Wednesday.
AMB. LIMB:
It seems that we have to consult with my home Government after the meeting. Therefore, it is convenient for the Korean side to hold the next plenary session at 3 p.m. in the afternoon instead of 4 p.m.
MR. SAWADA:
No objection.
AMB. LIMB:
How about preparing the press release? How about having the press officers of both sides to drart the text of preas release concerning today's meeting?
MR. SAWADA:
All right. No abjection. Let us leave the matter to the press officers of both sides.
(here both press officers worked on the press release, of Which the text is attached hereto.) The fourth Plenary Session of the Fourth Korea-Japan Overall Talks was adjourned at 4:55 p.m. on April 25, 1958.
