The 18th session of the Sub-committee on Vessels was held at the Japanese Foreign Ministry on November 4, 1958. At this meeting, our side asked the Japanese side if it was ready to submit a complete list of the vessels falling within the scope of agenda A.
As the Japanese side attempted to continue discussions on the legal basis of our claim under A, our side presented to the Japanese side a first list of 31 vessels which was prepared by this delegation in accordance with the government instructions Paragraph 8, item 6 reparding Sub-committee on Vessels of Woijung 1851 of May 21, 1958, and pressed the Japanese side to give answer whether it was ready to deliver them to us.
The Japanese side stated in this connection that discrepacies of views still exist regarding the legal interpretation on the basis for the claim under agenda A, and, therefore, further discussions should be made in this regard. After repeating our position on the legal basis of our claims, our side demanded that the Japanese reply be given at the next session to our request for the return of the 31 vessels contained in the above list.
The next meeting will be held at 3 p.m. November 11, 1958 Tuesday.
