한일관계에 관한 제안
MORANDOM
30th July, 1959.
To: The Honourable Ambassador Kim.
From: Counsellor Park.
Subject: Rpreaentation to the Foreign Office on Korea-Japan Relations
I saw Mr. Dalton, Head of the Far Eastern Department at 5.50 p.m. today to pass the information on the meeting held between Ambassador Yiu and the Japanese Foreign Minister Fujiyama in Tokyo. Before passing the information to Mr. Dalton according to the cable of 30th July 1959, I said that the information that I would pass will be of some interest to the British Government, and that I would wish to hear any comment that he might care to make regarding the Korean position.
when I disclosed to Mr. Dalton the essence of the Korean proposals put forward by Ambassador Yiu, Mr. Dalton listened to it very carefully. The immediate comment that Mr. Dalton made was that he was very glad that the Korean Government made these proposals in a further attempt to solve the problem, and that his Government welcomed any action that might lead to the improvement of relations between Korea and Japan. As I said that we hoped to have friendly support of the British Government to the latest proposal, Mr. Dalton remarked that his Government was much worried about the division of Korea, and that he has closely followed the development of the situation involving Korea and Japan. He remarked that therefore his Government always wished that the relations between Korea and Japan would improve, since the United Kingdom maintains friendly relations with both countries.
During my conversation with Mr. Dalton, it was learned that he will take a two weeks holiday from 1st August and during his absence Mr. Trench would be in charge of the Far Eastern Department.
