The 9th session of Sub-committee on other Claims regarding Korean art objects was held at 1030 a.m. on November 22 at the Japanese Foreign Ministry Next meeting will be held at 1030 a.m. on November 25.
At today's meeting the Japanese side regretted that it was not in a position to give a reply to our request for return of Korean art objects, pending decision of basic policy by the higher authorities. It continued that it discussed with Foreign Minister Fujiyama regarding Japanese policy on Korean art objects in the last week but the contemplated meeting of the Cabinet ministers concerned to decide the policy regarding the matter on Korean art objects and other problems of Korea-Japan Talks had to be postponed due to internal political difficulties in connection with Diet proceeding.
Our delegation reiterated our stand that the matter on Korean art objects should be settled without connecting it with the settlement of the other problems as soon as possible, repeating that an early settlement of the matter on Korean art objects would be of a significance to the smooth proceeding of works of other committees.
The Japanese side replied that, as the current internal political difficulties seem to be settled soon, the contemplated meeting of the cabinet ministers mentioned above could be held sometime in the next week if things would go smoothly.
