RECORD OF THE PROCEEDINGS OF THE COMMITTEE ON VESSELS
The 23rd meeting of the "Committee on Vessels" was held on 19th of December at the Japanese Ministry of Transportation.
The Japanese side made additional five questions relating to agenda (c) which is: (1) Is there any documents which prove the transfer of the five vessels on loan to Korea?
(2) When and where the Korean Government had been delivered the five vessels and what were the conditions of them at the time of delivery?
(3) What flag was hoisted on the five vessels at the time of delivery and what flag was hoisted on after their delivery?
(4) What is the present conditions of the five vessels?
(5) Whether the Korean Government has been requested the return of the five vessels by SCAP or not?
In reply to the above, the Korean side stated that it was not necessary to answer to all of the Japanese side's question. However, since the Committee is discussing the scope of agenda (a) and (c), they explained the status of the five vessels as follows:
SS Sakurajima Maru had been detained by the North Korean Communists when she was despatched to North Korea under the approval of the United States Army Military Government in Korea. SS Kankyo Maru had been tied up idly in the port of Pusan (Huzan) since after her return to Korea due to bad condition and lack of equipments. Later on, she was sunken and thus cancelled her registry. The other three vessels are being operated.
Next, the Korean side submitted the "List of Japanese Vessels Located in Korean Waters on or since 9 August 1945", the list of agenda (b).
