APO 500
Diplomatic Section
DS/NJS/TWA/bk
The Diplomatic Section of General Headquarters Supreme Gonmander for the Allied Powers, presents its compliments to the Korean Diplomatic Mission and has the honor to refer to the correspondence resting with the Diplomatic Section's note of January 20, 1950, concerning certain fund earmarked in Japan for payment to Korean nationals, and to recent conversations between representatives of the Mission and of this Head- quarters on the same subject.
The Mission, in informed that of the ¥237,000,000 indicated in preliminary reports as possibly earmarked for Korean nationals. in certain employment categories, only approximately three million yen is presently available in tie Foreign Creditor's Yen Account.
In view of this fact, and in consideration of the probability that in the near future the determination of the whereabouts of the individuals throughout Korea to whom the money is due will be greatly facilitated, it is believed appropriate that for the present the Japanese Government continue the program of segregating the funds in a single account. Transfer of the small amount now on deposit it the Foreign Creditors's Yen Account is accordingly considered premature.
