ROK and Japan Tentatively Set Data for K-J Talks Resumption for Aug. 12 or 17
Tokyo Aug. 7 (UPI)-South Korea and Japan today tentatively set the date for the resumption of overall talks to normalize relations for either August 12 or August 17.
The tentative dates for the resumption of the negotiations were given by a spokesman of the ROK Mission here following a meeting between Korean Ambassador Yiu Tai Ha and Japanese Vice Foreign Minister Hisanari Yamada.
The spokesman said the Japanese side indicated that either date would do for them and left it up to the Koreans to make the final decision.
Another official of the ROK Mission said that Ambassador Yiu would definitely return to Seoul for consultations before the resumption of the negotiations.
He added, however, that Yiu could not depart tomorrow but that he was expected to leave "early next week" to discuss the matter with the home Government.
Renzo Sawada, Japan's former Ambassador to the United Nations who 1ed the Japanese delegation in the earlier negotiations has been "tantatively" named to lead the Japanese again when the talks are resumed, informed sources said. ROK officials here could not say whether Yiu would lead the ROK delegation as before.
