I regret that I have not been successful to detain you from your departure for Peking through Mr. Lo. I beg now to enclose to you an answer (with a translation) from H. E. the Viceroy to your letter, inviting you to go to Pao-ting-fu.
I hope you will change your course at once, if you [ ]
Pao-ting-fu or you will return to Tientsin first, I will at the same time request Mr. Lo Honghoh to start for Pao-ting-fu at once to wait there for your arrival.
I solicit an immediate answer from you to enable me to acquaint His Excellency the Viceroy of the course which you are now taking.
