My Lord,
I HAVE the honour to forward to your Lordship a copy of the Declaration extending the period stipulated for exchanging the ratifications of Admiral Willes’ Treaty with Corea, which was signed at Söul on the 15th May last by Mr. Aston on the part of Her Majesty’s Government, and by I Cho-yön on the part of that of Corea.
The original Declaration was signed in duplicate, and one copy having been retained by the Corean Government, I have thought it advisable for the present to retain the other in this Legation rather than risk its transmission to your Lord-ship by post.

Declaration for extending the period for exchanging the Ratifications of the Treaty between Great Britain and Ireland and Chosen, signed at Jinchuen, June 6, 1882.
WHEREAS the Treaty of Friendship and Commerce, concluded at Jinchuen on the 6th June, 1882, between Vice-Admiral Willes on the part of great Britain and Ireland, and Isas Ling Hsia and Ching Hung Ku, members of the Royal Council, on the part of Chosen, contains a stipulation that the ratifications of this Treaty shall be exchanged at Jinchuen within one year from the date of its signature; and whereas the Government of Great Britain is of opinion that portions of this Treaty require further consideration, the Undersigned being duly authorized by their respective Governments, have agreed to declare as follows:―
That the period fixed within which the ratifications should be exchanged shall be extended to the 31st December, 1883. In faith of which they have signed the present Declaration made in duplicate, and in the English and Chinese languages, and have affixed thereto their seals.
