MEMORANDUM FOR: JAPANESE GOVERNMENT

SUBJECT: Return of Cargo Vessels to the Korean all steamship Co.

1. Reference is made to:

a. Memorandum for the Japanese Government, file AG 632(17 Nov. 48) CPC/FP SCAPIN 1965/ 2, 1 June 1949, subject, “Disposition of property in Japan of Companies or Persons with Load Offices in areas Formerly occupied by the Japanese, ”from General Headquarters, Supreme Commander for the Allied Powers; implemented by Japanese Government Cabinet Order 291, 1 August 1949.

b. O.L.C.O No. 33 (LO 45/49 AD CU), 8 January 1949, subject, “Application for Return to Japanese Waters of five Vessels Being Operated in Korean Water.‘

e. MCT-W No. 782, 24 October 1949, subject, “■■■erning Release from Operation in Korea Waters and Return to Japan of Five (5) Vessels owned by Korean Mail Steamship Co., Ltd.”

2. It is directed that the Japanese Government deliver to the branch of the Korean Mail Steamship Co. in Japan, cargo vessels equal to the aggregate tonnage and earning power of two branches 5 cargo vessels now on loan to Korea. In return, the Korean Mail Steamship Co. branch in Japan will immediately transfer title and register the 5 cargo vessels, the S.S. Nenkyo Maru, Kinsen Maru, Tonko Maru, Sakuajian Maru, and Anjo Maru, in the name of the Japanese Government.

3. A complete report, including copies of the official registration of title to the vessels transferred to the Korean Mail Steamship Co. by the Japanese Government and the re-registration of the 5 vessels owned by the Korean Mail Steamship Co. now in operation in Korean waters to the Japanese Government, shall be submitted to the Civil Property Custodian by 15 January 1950.
