Masers. Awasawa and Asada of the Japanese Ministry of Transportation paid a courtesy call on me in connection with the former's promotion from Director of the Marine Transportation Bureau to the Vice Minister of Transportation. The latter is Mr. Awasawa's replacement.
Mr. Awasawa had been Chief Japanese Member for the Vessels Subcommittee of the talks, which post will be taken over by Asada. Mr. Awasawa pledged his efforts for the smooth progress of the talks in his new capacity, inasmuch as the vessels issue will continue to be under his juriadiction.
