3. Gist of Talks:

As the chief member of the Japanese side, Mr. Awasawa is absent from today's metting on account of a certain important official business, I will reprement the Japanese side at this session.
In accordance with the decision reached at previous mession, Mr. Choi and myself were to have a talks on the matter in question however, due to MR. Choi's sudden visit ti Korea, our schedules was changed, and, consenently, Mr. Chin and Mr. Suganuma were to take over our job, instead, But no particelar progress was mede between them, I understand.
After a continuous study on the problem at issue, the Japanese side has come to a conclusion that the best way for a smooth operation of this Subcommittee is dither to enter into subtential cissions form agenda item (a) leaving the question of the wording of the proposed agenda item (d) for later woulution or to emply the wordings, "adopted on November 6, 1951," for all the four agenda items.

Therefore, I would like to ask Japanese side once again to think it over again with more sincerity.

As to the Japanese side's desire to report the problem to its high level and receive instructions thereon, I will not say anything. Now, both sides stick to its own proposal as a reasonable one. However, to the Korean side, the proposal made by the Korean side is the most reasonable one for a prompt conclusion of our talks on the adoption of agenda items, in view of the proceeding of the meeting at this Subcommittee. Hence, I hope that the Japanese side consider it with more sincerity so that this question be settled in line with the Korean proposal.

I entertain an idea that the press release be made to the effort that the Korean side proposed next Wednesday (20 August) for the next session of this Subcommittee, while the Japanese side counter-proposed that the date for the next meeting decided later, thus, the meeting being closed without as reaching any agreement on the date of the next meeting.
