I met Ambassador Sawada at six thirty Friday evening and talked for about an hour on Korea Japan problems.
I believe it advisable to study our strategy bafore the resumption of discussion. Also I feel it necessary for our Delegates in Seoul to have full discussion on various matters together with the Foreign Ministry in preparation for such resumption. With Government permission I would like to report to Government in person on result of a series of my talks with Mr. Sawada in past two weeks. In view of shortness of time I wish to have permission to return to Seoul preferrably on Monday, 19th for a few days stay so that
I could return to Tokyo and have another meeting with Mr. Sawada before resumption of Discussion on 26th.
Government instructions in this regard would highly be appreciated. Prior to this, I met Ambassador Dowling at airport at five o'clock Friday and talked about an hour.
I will report in this regard when I return to Seoul.
