Dear Mr. President:
As reported by cable already, at the sixth plenary session held on May 6, it was agreed that the following committees and sub-committees would be established:
1. Committee on Basic Relations
2. Committee on Korean Claims
a. Subcommittee on Claims
b. Sub-committee on Vessels
3. Committee on Fisheries and "Peace Line"
4. Committee on Legal Status of Korean Residents in Japan
As previously reported, our delegation proposed for the establishment of four committees, in compliance with the government instructions, instead of five as in the pact conferences. A number of informal meetings were held for our side to persuade the Japanese on this matter and they have finally yielded to us. There is no substantial difference between the above-mentioned committee composition and our original proposal which had been made on the basis of the government instructions.
Regarding the matter on art objects, it is understood that it would be taken up at the Sub-committee on Claims under the Committee on Korean Claims, as in the previous conferences. The Japanese side has already agreed, in the
His Excellency President Syngman Rhee
Agreed Ainutes signed on December 31, 1958, to discuss this (art objects subject under the category of Korean Claims.
At the seventh plenary session scheduled for this afternoon our delegation will propose that works of the Committee on Korean Claims and the Committee on Legal Status of Korean Residents in Japan be taken up first, so that discussion of matters concerning vessels and Korean art objects be started first. Development on this matter will be reported to the Government promptly,
