THIRD PLENARY SESSION OF THE FOURTH KOREA-JAPAN OVERALL TALKS
1. Time and place: From 4:25 p.m. to 4:35 p.m. on April 23, 1958 at the Japanese Foreign Office
2. Conferees:
The Korean side: Same as in the previous session
The Japanese side : Same as in the previous session
3. Gist of talks:
MR. SAWADA:
The proposal presented by Mr. Limb has been subject of study of our delegation. Our side did not finish studying it. I would like to ask you for more time to study your proposal.
AMB. LIMB:
Our delegation is very anxious to get down the important work as soon as possible. We don't want to allow more time to pass without doing nothing like this.
MR. SAWADA:
For the smooth proceeding of this negotiations, our side is now giving serious and important consideration to your proposal.
AMB. LIMB:
Our side wants the Japanese side to study over our proposal as quickly as possible for the smooth proceeding of this talks.
AMB. LIMB:
As to the fourth plenary session, shall we meet again tomorrow?
MR. SAWADA:
Even though I should like to meet again tomorrow, our side needs more time to study your proposal. It is funny for our side to ask you for more time again and again if the meeting is held tomorrow. We don't like to ask you tor more time so often. If our side ▣...▣shs studying your proposal, our side will approach you for next meeting.
AMB. LIMB:
Our side is very anxious to get down the important works as soon as possible. I hops you will finish your study on my proposal as soon as possible. That is why we would like to hold another plenary session sometime tomorrow.
MR. SAWADA:
As I mentioned before, our side doesn't like to ask you for more time again in order to study your proposal. As soon as we finish studying it, we will approach your side for speedy proceeding of this negotiations.
AMB. LIMB:
I would like to propose that the fourth plenary session be hold on April 25, 1958. I think 48 hours are enough for your side to study our proposal.
MR, SAWADA:
Then, I would like to suggest that the next meeting be held at 4 p.m. on April 25, 1958.
AMB. LIMB:
No objection.
AMB. LIMB:
How about preparing press release concerning the third plenary session of the Fourth Korea-Japan Overall Talks?
MR. SAWADA:
I think there is no concrete thing in today's meeting. If reporters ask, how about telling then that we studied over measures for smooth operation of the Overall Talks?
AMB. LIMB:
We have 7 Korean reporters waiting outside now. We have to say somsthing to them after the meeting. Let's release to the press to the effect that both sides studied ever measures for smooth operation of this negotiations, just as you mentioned now.
MR. SAWADA:
No objection.
AMB. LIMB:
Shall we release to the press that the fourth plenary session will be held on April 25, 1958 too?
MR. SAWADA:
No objection.
The meeting was adjourned at 4:35 p.m. on April 23, 1958.
After the adjournment of third plenary session, both sides(officers) met to draft the text of press release. Both sides agreed to release the following press release, of which the text is attached herewith.
