Representatives of Korean residents in Japan present monoy and goods to Japanese fishermen detained in Pusan
(The Sangyo ▣oski Shimbun, August 7, 1957)
Mr. Pak Hyen, president of the Osaka District Headquarters of the Korean Residents Union in Japan, who had gone to the Republic of Korea on June 10, leading a 12-man home country inspection mission, composed of Koreans of distinguished services residing in the Osaka district, returned here to Osaka on August 6 after inspecting various districts in Korea as well as the detention camp of Japanese fisherman in Pusan.
Upon his arrival in Osaka, Mr. Pak Hyen stated as follows:
While we were in Korea, we met with leaders of the Foreign Ministry, Commerce and Industry Ministry, the Social Ministry and Finance Ministry. Further we visited the Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the Trade Association and the Trade Fair and thus made an on-the-spot inspection of the condition of our country's economic development.
When we met with leaders of the National Assembly, we made the following request:
1) The current restrictions on travel to home country of Korean residents in Japan should be eased;
2) The ROK Government should establish an educational policy for Korean children in Japan;
3) Representatives of Korean residents in Japan who attend the National Assembly in their capacity as observers should be granted the same capacity as National Assemblymen, and the permit of entry into Korea should be granted for the three observers whose entry into Korea has not yet been permitted. Leaders of the National Assembly promised us to give favourable consideration to our request mentioned above.
In view of the present condition of the ROK-Japan relations, we visited the detention camp of Japanese fishermen in Pusan, and, representing the inspection mission, Messrs. Lee Yu Cheon, Lee Sang Dal, Kim Dam Duk, Kang Sun Pyong and myself met with representatives of detained Japanese fishermen including Messrs. Matsui Nankichi, Hirakawa Ryoshu, Aksi Kameichi, Tani Uzo, Sakai Yoichi, and Matsuoka Hiroshi, and consoled them. At the same time, we presented 40,000 hwan in cash, 300 sheets of towels and others to them as a token of the feeling to them of Korean residents in Japan, for which they appreciated us very much."
