Re FTB-310.
Point 1. The Japanese side raised no objection to the fixing of "definite amount ...". Re contents of "oral assurance", the Japanese side told me that it would present us its draft for a assurance without delay,
Point 2. Re item two of your cable, I proposed to release a brief joint communique to the effect that an agreement was made in ※principle on the repatriation of Korean residents in Japan to and their resettlement in the Republic of Korea and also on the treatment of the Korean residents in Japan while they remain in Japan. Point 3 of my cable MTB-297 means that I proposed to the Japanese side to release the above Joint Communique after reaching agreement on the matters of "compensation" and of property to be taken away and fund to be remitted by repatriating Koreans and so on.
Point 3. Re Item 3 of your cable, the Japanese side told me that it would expedite the working out of its final position in this connection.
Point 4. We will try our best to have the word "resettlement" in a proposed Joint Communique; however, it is viewed very difficult for the Japanese side to accept the word in the communique.
Point 5. I am doing my best strictly pursuant to "Negotiation Strategy". As I reported previously, I am scheduled to meet Asian Affairs Director Iseki on Monday.
