Item 1. The other day local press reported as if Dr. Junod wanted to "inspect" our peace line aboard a Japanese fishing boat during his stay in Japan. Embarrassed at the press report, Dr. Junod issued a denial statement upon his arrival at Niigata yesterday (Aug.27)
His statement reads as follows:
Some Japanese newspapers reported as if I had said I wanted to inspect Rhee Line ". However, the press report is not true. Korea -Japan fisheries problem surrounding "Rhee Line " is a political matter and the ICRC has made it a rule not to get involved in such a political issue. Therefore, I have no intention whatsoever to inspect "Rhee Line ".
Referring to a Japanese fishing boat etc, I just said I would like to have a sightseeing trip on a boat if time permitted me to do so."
Item 2. In regard to Dr. Junod 's remarks on our peace line etc, the day before yesterday I made a verval representation with the Swiss Embassy here, enquiring about the authenticity of the press report on Dr. Junod 's alleged remarks.
