Item 1. A working committee meeting in the implementation of the mutual repatriation of detainees was held at the Japanese Foreign Ministry from 2:30 to 3:15 p.m., Aug. 12. First Secretary Pil Chik Chin headed our side temporarily at today's meeting, and Councilor Kijiro Miyake of the Japanese foreign Ministry headed the Japanese side temporarily. At this meeting, no substantial discussion was made, but the temporary chief members of both sides exchanged brief remarks after introducing their members respectively. In his remarks, Mr. Miyake expressed the desire that the mutual repatriation would be implemented in the earliest possible date and that number of Japanese fishermen who would finish their prison terms after July 30 would be included in mutual repatriation. Countering Miyake's remarks, Mr. chin stated that this meeting was opened strictly on the basis of Ambassador Yiu's notification to the Japanese Foreign Minister on July 30 and the Japanese Foreign Minister reply thereto on August 1. Both sides agreed to held next meeting in the early part of next week and that the exact date and hour there would be decided upon after (the date and hour of next meeting will be set after Minister Choi's return to Tokyo sometime in the weekend or in early next week).
Item 2. From next meeting on, Minister Choi will head the Korean side and Asian Bureau Director Izeki will head the Japanese side.
