U.S. LAWYERS TO MULL RHEE LINE
The American Federation of Bar Associations will take up the Rhee Line-dispute between Japan and South Korea at its session in Miami, Fla., next month, the Japan Federation of Bar Associations said yesterday.
The Japanese bar group received to date eight replies to questionnaires on the Rhee Line issue which it mailed July 5 to 274 bar associations throughout the world.
The American Federation of Bar Associations replied that it would hold a meeting of its board of directors in Miami, Aug. 23 to study the question. It added that it would invite representatives of Japanese lawyers to attend the meeting.
A reply from Alfred M. Schaffer, an executive of the International Bar Associations with headquarters in New York suggested that Japan should work to have the Rhee Line issue placed on the agenda of the coming IBA meeting slated to be held in Salzburg, Austria, in July, next year. If this is done, the weight of international opinion may serve to improve the situation, he added.
Arturo A. Alafriz, president of the Federation of Bar Associations of the Philippines, said he would shortly form a special committee to study the Rhee Line issue
