Tuesday 16th evening Chairman Naka Funada of Liberal-Democratic Party Foreign Affairs Research Commit tee asked to see me and following is gist of our talks:
Funada proposed that top level political meeting consisting on Japanese side of Party Vice President Ohno, Executive Board Chairman Kohno, Secretary-General Kawashima, and Ambassador Sawada, and on our side of Ambassador Limb and myself be called and that its first meeting be held at 6 p.m. Saturday 20th. I told him we had no objection to this date. Accordingly I am planning to be present that day with Ambassador Limb. As this meeting will be first one, substantial discussion will get under way after new year. Composition of Japanese delegation is significant because above members are the kernel of present Kishi administration. I will keep an eye on what they would say. Please keep this matter confidential till Saturday.
