The 7th session of the Sub-committee on other claims regarding Korean Art Objects was held at 1030 a.m. on November 8 at the Japanese Foreign Ministry. The next meeting will be held at 1030 a.m. on November 15, 1958.
At today's meeting the Japanese side stated that, though it wanted, to bring the matter on Korean Art Objects to the cabinet meeting for the decision of basic policy during the past week, it was not able to do so due to the internal politics in connection with the Diet proceedings. It added that the Japanese delegation would continue its efforts to bring about the higher authorities' decision regarding the matter on art objects, regarding that it was not in a position yet under the curcumstances to enter into substantial discussions in this regard.
Our side reiterated that the Japanese side should give us a concrete reply regarding our request for return of art objects, referring to our demand for the submittance of a complete list of Korean Art Objects and to the first gist of art objects our side represented at the previous meeting.
As the Japanese side stated again that the settlement of this matter was related to the other various committee, our side countered again that this matter should be settled without connecting it to other matters, stating that the settlement of the matter should be very helpful to the expeditious proceedings of other committee.
The Japanese side stated that it had no intention to delay the settlement of the matter indefinitely and the Japanese delegation would spare no effort to bring about an early decision of the basic policy in this regard by the higher authorities.
