THE SUMMARY RECORD OF THE TALKS BETWEEN AMBASSADOR KIM AND JAPANESE VICE-MINISTER OF FOREIGN AFFAIRS OHNO REGARDING THE ESTABLISHMENT OF A WORKING COMMITTEE
1. Time and place : At 10:45 a. m., January 6, 1958 at the Japanese Foreign Ministry

3. The gist of the talks:
AMBASSADOR KIM
With a view to a smooth interpretation and implementation of the terms agreed upon at the preliminary talks which were concluded on December 31. 1957, I would like topropose that a sort of working committee be set up. The Korean side wishes to name the committee tentatively as "THE KOREA-JAPAN WORKING COMMITTEE FOR THE PREPARATION FOR RESUMPTION OF THE OVERALL TALKS AND FOR THE IMPLEMENTATION OF THE TERMS AGREED UPON AT THE PRELIMINARY TALKS."

In principle, I agree to your suggestion. I do not think the Japanese side has any objection to the setting up of such a working committee but I hope you will allow me tohave a chance to discuss this matter with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Japan. In fact, as far as the Japanese side is concerned, it will have a meeting among representatives of various ministries concerned tom map out the overall plan to implement the terms agreed upon at the preliminary talks. Therefore, as soon as that meeting is over, our side will inform you of the definite attitude of the Japanese side toward your proposal.

I would like to inform you that the Korean side has delegated the following gentleman as members of the Korean delegation to the committee:

Assistant : Mr. Young Park, Second Secretary
Mr. Ki Bong Han, Second secretary Mr. To Kyong Limb Third Secretary

I hope that your side will also inform us of the names of the Japanese delegation to such committee.

I wish to acknowledge the reciept of your kind information on the composition of the Korean delegation to such a committee. As far as the names of the Japanese delegation are concerned, we will let you know later. However, I think that the leader of the Japanese delegation will be Mr. Itagaki who is director of the Asian Affairs bureau. Anyhow, our side will inform the Korean Mission of the names of the Japanese delegation and the time and place when and where this committee meeting will be held within today.
