THE Queen having been graciously pleased to approve of your selection for the provisional appointment of Her Majesty’s Vice-Consul for service in Corea, I inclose Her Majesty’s Commission to that effect.
You will place yourself under the orders of Mr. W. S. Aston, who has received the provisional appointment of Her Majesty’s Consul-General for Corea, and you will obey such instructions as he may from time to time issue to you.
You will continue to draw the present pay of your rank, and a further allowance of 15s. a-day has been assigned to you, with house rent, office, and travelling expenses.
You will acknowledge to me the receipt of your Commission.
