Eastern Wall of the entrance passage
TitleEastern Wall of the entrance passage

This is a view of the honor guard procession depicted on the eastern wall of the entrance passage. The soldiers are lined up facing the tomb entrance and carrying red-tasseled spears and black shields. The spears feature hook-shaped blades that were used by infantrymen to pull down enemies from horses. Unfortunately, the images of the soldiers have deteriorated to a point that only their weapons and shields are visible. The primary role of these soldiers is to stand guard at the entrance of the tomb and protect the bodies and souls of the entombed noble couple. This scene is reminiscent of soldiers guarding a real-life palace gate.
