The two islands are located in the middle of the East Sea. The two islands are close enough that the other is visible on a clear day.

Usando, Ulleungdo
The islands were also referred to as Mureung and Ureung. The two islands are located in the middle of the East Sea. Three peaks reach high; the southern peak is the shortest of the three. On a clear day, the sandbar and trees on the mountain peak may be seen vividly, and the island can be reached in two days in a fair wind.

Teacher Notes
The government compiled several geography texts in the early Joseon period for military service and tax collection purposes. In these texts, sections on Gangwon-do included information regarding Ulleungdo and Dokdo. The Annals of King Sejong Geographical Records compiled in the fifteenth century and the Gangwon-do – Uljin County section in New and Expanded Complete Conspectus of the Territory of the Eastern Country, which was completed in the sixteenth century, contains detailed information about Ulleungdo and Dokdo.

Answer
Dokdo is referred to as Usando in The Annals of King Sejong Geographical Records and New and Expanded Complete Conspectus of the Territory of the Eastern Kingdom. Usando and Ulleungdo are close enough that the other is visible on a clear day.
