A map is a visual representation of natural and human elements in a given space. It contains information about the geography and territory of a country. Old maps, in particular, reflect the level of scientific knowledge, mapping technology, and the artistic expression of the period in which they were compiled. The maps issued by the government are the most direct and clear presentations of a country’s territories. Old maps produced by individuals are reliable sources of such information, as well.

Usando is shown as an oblong shape and located west of Ulleungdo. Ulleungdo and Dokdo’s locations are switched in this map. Although the locations are switched, this government map includes both islands and clearly shows that they are part of Korea.
