Wooden framework on the ceiling of the main chamber (eastern wall)
zoom

This is a detailed view of the wooden framework depicted on the ceiling of the main chamber (eastern wall) in Tokhung-ri Tomb. The ceiling of the main chamber is a combination of a dome-like structure and parallel supporting stones, and the wooden structural frames are depicted on the dome-like ceiling. The wooden framework in the image is comprised of trusses between large and medium-sized joists of the ceiling.
Unlike the antechamber that divides the real world and the heavens, the entire main chamber is a representation of an elegant building structure contained within the heavens. Thus, the flame patterns depicted on the ceiling are interpreted to symbolize the noble couple burning away all earthly sins and desires to be reborn in the Buddhist Land of Bliss.
