zoom

This is the procession painted on the southern wall of the antechamber in Tokhung-ri Tomb. This procession, in a four-line formation, is on the southern wall of the antechamber and continues to the eastern and northern walls. Members of the procession include musicians with instruments, equestrian figures, and low-ranking officials bearing flags. A horn bugle and carrying-drum can be seen as well as a mounted archer in the middle of the line.
Depictions of Koguryo processions usually include a ceremonial band as seen above. A ceremonial band is typically comprised of percussion and wind instruments such as drums and horn flutes, respectively. These bands generally accompanied outings for nobles to provide entertainment and generate publicity. Although the traditions of such ceremonial bands may vary depending on the times, the core principal has continued in processions throughout history for Joseon era kings, high-ranking government officials, and even modern-day athletes or members of the military.
