This is a detailed view of the Jumi (fan made with horsehair or cloth, symbolizing high status in ancient China) depicted on the northern wall of the main chamber in Susahn-ri Tomb. The Jumi served no utilitarian purpose but symbolized the prestige of aristocrats. Although the Jumi was generally depicted in a person's hand, this Jumi appears standing next to the nobleman.
The yellow, triangular Jumi in the image is decorated with a depiction of a Guimyeon (demon mask). The intimidating Guimyeon features big, bright eyes and a gaping mouth as if to devour everything in sight. A curved handle can be seen attached to the fan.
