Brion de la Tour, a French royal geographer, compiled this map in 1786 by for the general public. In this endeavor, he tried to be as objective as possible by marking an island named after the Danish explorer Bering based on Russian sources and removing Gamma Land from the map. The name of the sea on the eastern side of the Korean Peninsula was named Mer de Corée following the convention of most French royal cartographers. The border between Joseon and Qing China is not marked, and geographical names within Joseon are limited to Gyeonggi-do (Kinkitao). Jejudo is marked on the map, but Ulleungdo is not.
