This map is part of the atlas Atlante Novissimo published by Antonio Zatta, and is famous for its beautiful decorations. Zatta, who was active between the late eighteenth century and the early nineteenth century, was a renowned map publisher. The name of the sea to the east of the Korean Peninsula is marked as Mare di Corea, meaning the Sea of Korea. Based upon the results of a survey conducted by Maerten Gerritsz Vries, this map shows the islands of Stati and Compagnia north of Hokkaido. The shape of Hokkaido, Sakhalin, and the Kuril Islands is not clear, and the border between Joseon and Qing China was not marked.
