In the upper-left part of the map there appears a funeral oration that reads, "Refraining from Interrupting the Lineage of the Three Jewels," written by Bak Yeong-hyo, a late nineteenth-century enlightenment activist in Korea. This text is intended to uphold the monarchy and its land and people. According to the epilogue in the map, this image was based upon a map brought by Kim Ok-gyun, a reform activist. There are no longitude and latitude designations, and dots were used to mark locations. Ulleungdo was identified as "Jukdo" and Dokdo as "Songdo." Dokdo was clearly marked at the map’s eastern margin, which shows the mapmaker''s effort to include this islet in the map.
