This is a detailed view of the lotus & palmette (decorative element resembling honeysuckle leaves) depicted on the side of the third stone prop of the northwestern wall.
The lotus & palmette in the image features a prominent Baozhu (lotus bud-shaped bead) in the center and a full-bloom lotus in elevation view. The delicate and elegant flowing curves of this pattern are reminiscent of Paintings of Flowers and Birds rendered in ink wash. The central lotus is colored in brown and white and its petal contours are neatly finished in black. The outstanding work features a harmony of subtle color changes and flowing lines. The artwork almost seems to have been painted on smooth rice paper rather than a rough stone wall, and the impossibly smooth strokes and curves project the mature skill level of Koguryo artistry.
