Eastern Wall of the Eastern Gallery – Procession - His Majesty’s Banner

This is a detailed view of the standard-bearer's banner depicted on the eastern gallery wall in Anak Tomb No. 3. Although the inscription isn't entirely clear, the basic shapes are enough to derive the phrase Seongsang-beon which translates to “His Majesty's Banner.” Naturally, the phrase “His Majesty's Banner” indicates that the banner can only be used by a king. Hence, theories emerged claiming that Anak Tomb No. 3 belonged not to the exile Dong-su, but rather a Koguryo king.
The standard-bearer is wearing a military attaché Chaek (headwear with a cone-shaped point), Jeogori (traditional Korean upper garment), waistband, and form-fitting trousers known as Gung-go.
