This is a detailed view of the equestrian figure participating in mounted archery on the western wall of the main chamber in Tokhung-ri Tomb. The figure in the image is wearing a high-mobility Geon, narrow-sleeved Jeogori (traditional Korean upper garment), and form-fitting trousers. This type of attire is typical for northern nomadic tribes and is suitable for mounted archery. Even the waistband serves to prevent the clothes from flapping and interfering with such activities.
All three of these figures in the images are wearing Jeogoris (traditional Korean upper garment), trousers, and black Geons (a type of ancient headwear that wraps around the entire head and tied in the back, similar to a bandanna). Although Geons were primarily worn by the lower-class, they were also utilized by people of high social standing for hunting or outdoor activities requiring a high degree of mobility. The inscription next to these figures reads "Archery Registrar." One person holding a brush records the scores, and the other two people observe and judge the trials.
The mounted archery scene is an excellent example of the Koguryo people's martialistic mentality. Koguryo people are surmised to have trained their combat skills through these mounted archery trials and hunting activities.
