Located in the East Sea, Dokdo is the extreme eastern point of Korea. It is located 87.4 kilometers (47.2 nautical miles) southeast of Ulleungdo, the nearest island, and 216.8 kilometers (117.1 nautical miles) east of Uljin County, North Geyongsang-do, the nearest land mass. The Oki Islands of Shimane Prefecture are the nearest Japanese territory to Dokdo, but are 157.5 kilometers (85.0 nautical miles) away. As Ulleungdo and Dokdo are in close proximity, Dokdo may be seen with the naked eye on a clear day. However, Dokdo is not visible from the Oki Islands.
