Then watch the video about Dokdo ( http://www.dokdohistory.com ), and connect the photographs with their matching locations.
A full-size map is in the center. Dokdo is comprised of two large islands, Seodo (West Islet) and Dongdo (East Islet), as well as 89 smaller rock islands. The total area is 187,554 square meters. Seodo is 88,740 square meters and is somewhat larger than Dongdo, which is 73,297 square meters. The highest peak on Dongdo is 98.6 meters, Seodo 168.5 meters.
Study each photograph, then try to explain to your friends how these landmarks got their names.
Teacher Notes
This was included to stimulate a deeper understanding of Dokdo for students. However, the ultimate goal here is to familiarize the students with Dokdo through activities, rather than asking them to memorize information. It would be in the best interest of the students to finish the light lesson by searching for photos and maps of Dokdo and raise their awareness.
The seven photos show the islet’s natural beauty as well as the human influence. Students will be able to easily identify the matching names and pictures with locations on the map. The resident housing building and the dock are clearly identifiable, and Face Rock, Independence Rock, and Peninsula Rock are all easily determined by their shapes. Three Brothers Rock may be difficult to locate since it is not actually separated into three, and students may have difficulty with the name Tanggun Pillar. The lesson should proceed smoothly with additional explanations and assistance from the teacher.
Identifying the eight different landmarks should be supplemented with maps from the Northeast AsianHistory Foundation homepage. And explanations from the teacher should help provoke questions and opinions. Memorization of these names is not necessary.

Since visiting Dokdo is unlikely, various images have been selected to show students the many facets of Dokdo.
