What type of marine life exists around Dokdo?
-
- Figure 2
-
The cold Liman Current and the warm Kuroshio Current flow through the Korea Strait into the East Sea (Sea of Japan). The North Korea (Liman extension) Cold Current from the north and the Tsushima Current from the south circulate and meet near Dokdo. When a cold ocean current and a warm ocean current meet, this creates an area rich in minerals and plankton, the latter being an important source of food for fish. This in turn creates valuable fishing grounds that are home to diverse marine life. Salmon, trout, cod, pollock, pike, and squid are fished in this region. The surrounding seabed and reef support kelp, abalone, turban shells, and seaweed, among other forms of sea life.

1. With information from Figure 2, identify the ocean currents in Figure 1 by coloring warm currents red and cold currents blue.
