Title | Big Dipper | ||
---|---|---|---|
This is a detailed view of Big Dipper on the ceiling of the antechamber (northern wall) in Tokhung-ri Tomb. Big Dipper forms a pair with Milk Dipper depicted on the southern wall ceiling. The ancients believed that "Milk Dipper oversees life, and Big Dipper oversees death" and revered these two asterisms in particular. The seven circles symbolizing stars are connected by a line, demonstrating the fact that the Koguryo people recognized these stars as a single entity rather than a random assortment of celestial objects.
