This is a detailed view of the drummers on the eastern gallery wall in Anak Tomb No. 3. This unique drum is held by multiple people while being played by another. This type of drum is known as a carrying-drum. The image depicts two people carrying the drum and frame on their shoulders while the drummer beats on the drum with a black percussion mallet. Four legs can be seen attached to the bottom of the drum to be used as a stand. Notably, the carrying-drum was fitted with a canopy to protect the leather from sun damage. Red tassels enhance the decorative design.
The figures carrying the drum are wearing Geons (a type of ancient headwear that wraps around the entire head and tied in the back, similar to a bandanna) on their heads. Although Geons were primarily worn by valets or the lower-class during the Koguryo era, they were also used by nobility for hunting or other outdoor activities. The figure is also wearing a Jeogori (traditional Korean upper garment) with a waistband. Their trousers are securely tied with a strap around their calves. The sense of rhythm in these musicians is well-realized in this image.
